You should see the ice in the morning. The orange alpine glow is nice to experience. I biked across Mendenhall Lake on my birthday in February. I was riding on ice and 4 inches of freshly fallen puffy snow. The snow provided traction as long as I was going fast enough. The Herbert Glacier Trail is nice. It is about 4 miles. Nice and flat. You get a nice view and a rushing river. I biked that in the winter. A ribbon of ice for 4 miles.
